Hey everyone, Recently installed windows vista beta and am having some serious problems with my computer now. Microsoft Office won't stop trying to update, as it needs cd's that I no longer have, as my laptop was setup through my university. How could I get rid of vista and go back to using XP?

Rolling back to XP
Let me understand you:
You installed a beta O/S on a computer that is owned by a university, it isn't working, and now you want to make it all back the way it was before the IT guy's find out? Have I gotten close?
The only way to go back to XP now is to reformat and reinstall. Try telling the IT guys, when you ask for the discs, that you need them for a, a, research project, yeah, that's it.

Sorry if I wasn't being clear enough... I own the machine, however it was bought through my university, therefore they installed a number of essential programs (Microsoft Office included). Vista seems to work fine, except it keeps trying to update/configure Microsoft Office Professional XP, asking me to insert the disc over and over whenever I boot up the computer or open any windows or programs, rendering my computer basically unusable. Is there anyway around this problem besides reformatting? Reformatting would work, however I will not be able to reinstall these programs as I'm not currently at school...not a very feasible option at the moment. Thanks for your help.

Perhaps, and this either will help you or completely crash your system, download and install the Office 2007 Pro Beta?
Kinda like putting a band aid on the jugular, but it would be enough to get to the hospital. Keep in mind, the Office Beta has a time limit, after which it is rendered dead, just like Vista.

Any chance that your laptop has a recovery partition? Your ver. of Office may also be here. You boot into the recover partion and let it rebuild the orginal OS. WARNING: This is a destructive operation. You will lose Vista.
Just a thought.

i think office xp might just be having an issue with vista. try uninstalling it, if possible. either way try putting office 2007 on it. and good luck. "sphockey04" wrote in message

It is not an "issue with Vista" He had a copy of Office installed for him...any changes to the installation will require the original CD's, just like if he were to have tried to run an update on XP He does not own the CD's, rather had someone install it onto his machine..... I would suggest goign the Office 2007 route and trying to import any important emails.
